PMX Guide To Privacy Window Film Solutions
The type of privacy coating to recommend will depend on your client’s specific requirements.
We are often asked for ‘one-way’ films. Normally, a Silver or Dual Reflective 5 or 15% will be sufficient but it is always important to explain to the client they only work during daylight hours, i.e. when it is brighter outside than in.
For particularly sensitive areas, such as high-security buildings or domestic/commercial bathrooms, other options should be considered.
‘One-way’ silver film installed on a domestic property.
One-way on glazed internal partitions, such as an office adjoining a reception area, will present challenges when the light levels are the same both sides.
We have found a certain combination of films can work well. Additionally, if the client is able to manipulate the lighting levels, such as repositioning spotlights, this can help achieve the desired effect.
PMX were tasked with creating an internal one-way effect for this observation room.
For complete privacy, a frosted film can be ideal as they still allow light through. Alternatively, a solid whiteout or coloured vinyl will do the job.
Occasionally there might be a requirement for 0% light transmission, such as when lasers are in use or a light-sensitive manufacturing process is in operation.
In such cases a complete ‘blockout’ film can be provided, or 2-3 layers of standard blackout are normally sufficient.
For glazed partition areas a frosted pattern is ideal to eliminate the ‘goldfish bowl’ effect and can incorporate an eye-catching design or the company branding.
This dentist reception was overlooked by neighbours. Graded bands of frost were installed to provide privacy without completely blocking the view outside.
Contra Vision® is a great way to incorporate company branding with a one-way effect and works by utilising small perforations throughout the material allowing vision out. The front is printed which draws the attention.
At this solicitors office the client had some privacy concerns and were also interested in using imagery related to their profession. Printed Contra Vision® was installed.
